Nascar Cup Race Highlights and Drama in San Diego

The inaugural NASCAR Cup Series race at the Coronado Street Course in San Diego delivered an unforgettable spectacle, blending high-speed action with the unique backdrop of Naval Base Coronado.

 

Emerging as the standout performer, Corey Heim clinched his first career Cup Series victory. In a thrilling late-race maneuver, Heim overtook teammate Tyler Reddick, securing a significant win for 23XI Racing. This triumph also marked the first time the No. 67 car found victory lane in the Cup Series.

 

Adding to the team's success, Bubba Wallace showcased remarkable resilience. After an early pit stop mishap that left him two laps down, Wallace fought back to finish second, completing a 1-2 finish for 23XI Racing.

 

However, the race wasn't without its challenges. Shane van Gisbergen, who had secured the pole position, faced a setback when he was involved in a multi-car incident during a restart, resulting in a disappointing finish and impacting his standing in the championship race.

 

Another notable performance came from Ryan Preece of RFK Racing. Preece led laps and secured a Stage Two victory, ultimately finishing 11th after a late-race pit stop. His efforts earned him valuable stage points, bolstering his position in the championship standings.
